Slow Vinyasa Yoga with Merril Miller
Yoga is a Sanskrit word generally meaning "discipline. The physical exercise we know in the United States as Yoga originally derived from one of the six classical systems of Indian philosophy. Originally part of an eight-fold path to achieve liberation, the Hatha Yoga aspect of that path is primarily practiced by Westerners.

Hatha Yoga, the most physical exercise of Yoga, was originally developed as a means to prepare the body for enhanced spiritual meditation. The postures (asanas) that make up Hatha Yoga are designed to align the body's skin, bone and muscles. When this alignment is achieved, they act to open the channels of the body so that one's internal energy can move more freely.

Vinyasa
is a term used in Yoga that actually covers a wide range of different practices. In general, the poses are connected more fluidly on an exhale or inhale.  The teacher will assist the student in learning how to flow properly from one posture to the next.

Now people living on the NW side of Chicago have the convenience of exploring this ancient exercise system right in their own neighborhood. Students of the Slow Vinyasa Yoga Program learn to move through postures that strengthen the body, improve flexibility, enhance relaxation and increase energy flow. The asanas are an age-old method of improving both physical health and mental clarity. Their balancing effect on the body can assist in gaining emotional well-being.

The Slow Vinyasa Yoga Program is designed for beginners. The classes cover simple introductions to breathing techniques and basic meditation. Proper alignment and form will be introduced for the full benefit of this type of exercise. Sessions are conducted in a soothing, comfortable atmosphere that ensures students leave feeling physically and mentally rejuvenated.
